In Britain, the amount of expenses for the construction of a new runway at Heathrow was revealed

The construction of a third runway is necessary for London's Heathrow Airport and will cost approximately £49 billion ($65 billion). This was reported by The Times on July 31.

"The world's busiest airport with two runways needs a third runway. <...> The price tag on the offer? About £49 billion," the publication says.

According to the project, the length of the new runway, which will provide "maximum" flexibility in the work of Heathrow, will be 3.5 thousand meters. It is noted that this decision will allow the airline to accept 276 thousand more flights per year, and will also contribute to the creation of up to 100 thousand new jobs.

However, according to the newspaper, London Mayor Sadiq Khan believes that the corresponding expenses are not justified, as increased traffic can negatively affect the environment. In addition, in his opinion, for the implementation of the presented project, about 700 houses will have to be demolished, the route of the M25 highway will have to be changed, which may cause traffic jams on the already busy city ring highway.

The newspaper added that the project developers have developed another option that does not imply a change in the route of the M25, and is also more budgetary — they proposed reducing the length of the lane, the creation of which, as emphasized, "should not be in doubt."
