In the Central Federal District (CFD), the unemployment rate dropped to a minimum of 1.4% in May, according to data from the Bank of Russia, which was analyzed by Izvestia. The indicator also fell to 2.1% in the Far East, 1.5% in the Urals, and 3% in Siberia. It remained at the same level in the Volga-Vyatka, north-western and southern directions — 1.6%, 2.1% and 4.2%, respectively.

The higher unemployment rate in the southern regions of the country is due to seasonal factors, the dominance of the agricultural sector and a less diverse economy, said the deputy general director of the service "Work.<url>" and Alexander Veterkov, Chief Operating Officer of Sberpodbor. The indicator is lower in regions with high salaries and staff shortages, as new production facilities are also actively developing there, said Natalia Milchakova, a leading analyst at Freedom Finance Global.

The difference between regions is also related to mentality. According to Natalia Milchakova, young people are becoming more mobile now — they want to get higher salaries, so they move to big cities for this purpose. This trend leads to a shortage of qualified personnel in economic sectors, she added.

"The unemployment rate does not fully reflect the state of the labor market in the Russian Federation. The fact is that it is not those who are currently unemployed who are considered unemployed, but those who are registered with the employment service and "desperate to find a job," said economist Andrei Barkhota.
