In summer, due to the heat and increased sweating, it is especially important to keep the bed linen clean. Ideally, you should change the sheets and pillowcases every 3-4 days, and if the room is hot and there is no air conditioner, even more often, ORMATEK experts and cosmetologist Polina Ketola told Izvestia on August 1.

At night, the skin secretes sebum, sweat, makeup particles and dead cells that remain on the tissue. This creates a favorable environment for bacteria, which can lead to inflammation and irritation. The person who is in contact with the sebum-absorbing pillow all night is particularly affected.

For the hot season, it is better to use lightweight blankets with breathable fillers such as lyocell (eucalyptus fiber), bamboo or cotton. These materials wick moisture well and do not overheat.

"For the summer season, it is better to choose underwear made of natural and breathable fabrics. Flax is one of the most comfortable options. It is cool, well-ventilated, and dries quickly. It may seem a little harsh, but it is this feature that helps to create a feeling of coolness and freshness — the fabric almost does not fit the body and lets the air through better," said Alexandra Yerofeyeva, textile category manager at ORMATEK.

As for pillows, in the heat it is worth giving preference to models with improved thermoregulation. Pillows with cooling gel inserts, with shape memory effect or enhanced ventilation will be a good choice. This will help to avoid overheating and related skin irritations.

The fabric of the bed linen should be soft and breathable. Satin, tencel or bamboo fiber are ideal — they do not irritate the skin, dry quickly and ensure a comfortable sleep even in the heat.

"In summer, the pillowcase should be changed 2-3 times a week, and the pillow should be washed once every two weeks. Especially if you have oily or combination skin. In the heat, the sebaceous glands work more actively, and this is normal: the body regulates temperature in this way. But due to increased sebum on the skin and tissue, a favorable environment for acne is created: the pores become clogged, and closed comedones appear," Ketola explained.

When washing, it is recommended to use hypoallergenic products without perfumes, especially if the skin is prone to irritation.

Earlier, on April 16, Natalia Mikhailova, a cosmetologist and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia that mild cleansers should be used in the warm season — foams, gels or mousses with the addition of acids or enzymes.
