Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly (UNGA) in September. This was announced on July 30 by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

"Canada intends to recognize the State of Palestine during its visit to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2025," he said.

However, as the Prime Minister added, the Palestinian Authority will need to reform its governance system, as well as hold elections in the state in 2026, in which the Palestinian Hamas movement will not be able to participate.

On July 29, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also expressed his country's readiness to recognize the state of Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly. He noted that this could happen if Israel does not reach a cease-fire and does not fulfill its obligations to achieve a long-term peace process.
