- The Russian Embassy reported on the persecution of Russians by the Estonian authorities
Estonian law enforcement agencies are persecuting Russian compatriots for political reasons. This was reported to Izvestia by the Russian Embassy in Tallinn.
"The law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Estonia continue to persecute our compatriots for political reasons. At the same time, the exact number of cases brought against them remains unknown, since the staff of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Estonia provides the Embassy with information only about our fellow citizens, and consular officials do not provide access to the so-called "passport holders" and holders of Estonian passports. Some of the hearings are held in a closed format due to the inadmissibility of disclosing sensitive information and state secrets, and therefore there may be no publications in the media," the diplomats said.
According to the Russian Embassy, more than ten Russians have been criminally prosecuted since 2022. They are most often accused of violating sanctions and intelligence activities. A weak evidence base is used to impose heavy sentences, the Russian embassy said.
