Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier died after being hit by a rockfall while climbing a peak in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. This was reported by the DPA news agency on July 30.

The athlete and her partner were climbing to a height of about 6,000 m on July 29 when a rockfall occurred. They decided to climb the peak with minimal equipment and without expedition logistics.
