- The State Duma named the conditions for establishing relations with the United States
The United States' rejection of the policy of force, military aggression, and the practice of color revolutions is something that could fundamentally help improve relations with Russia. Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said this on Wednesday, July 30.
According to the deputy, only a common understanding of global interests in the international arena can improve relations between Russia and the United States. It is connected with the need to build equal relations, to abandon the policy of hegemony, from attempts at military dictate by force or dictate through the threat of war. He added that this is such an ingrained tradition and practice for the United States that no president has ever abandoned it.
"As long as the United States adheres to this line, as long as the West as a whole acts in the framework of NATO solidarity from such positions, it will be very difficult to count on achieving full mutual understanding," the parliamentarian said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Novikov noted that with good will and common sense, it is possible to make decisions that will help avoid an arms race and ensure greater security.
"Returning to the topic of short-term opportunities: if the United States focuses its interests on other regions and understands that they cannot handle the Ukrainian conflict, we can normalize our relations for a short period of time from the point of view of the historical process," the deputy said.
He admitted that Washington could do this, but expressed concern that it would then involve attempts to strike countries that are Russia's allies. This means that overall global security will not be ensured, he concluded.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 29 that the process of improving relations with the United States is slow, "neither shaky nor shaky," but Russia continues its interest in this process, IA Regnum reports.
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation expressed hope that the process of improving relations between the two countries "will gain greater momentum." 360.ru .
Peskov also said that there are no negotiations between Moscow and Washington on the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START Treaty). According to him, this process is hampered by the state of bilateral relations, which they entered into during the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
He also noted that at the moment there is no question of a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump.
