The United States called Trump's words about the 10-day deadline for an agreement on Ukraine a bluff.

The statements of US President Donald Trump are largely a bluff and a reaction to pressure from Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation) and anti—Russian forces in his party and in Washington. This opinion was expressed by American political scientist and journalist Garland Nixon in a conversation with Izvestia on July 30.

"I'm not even sure he's saying anything about Russia at all. This is not about Russia. I think it's a bluff in many ways. He's trying to buy time, but they're putting a lot of pressure on him," the expert noted.

Nixon recalled that Trump had already tried to impose huge duties on China, and then predictions about the destruction of the United States economy appeared. According to him, Beijing did not fall for Trump's bluff that time. The expert believes that history repeats itself, and the words of the American leader are tactics.

The political scientist emphasized that Trump is a skilled showman. The actions he performs, and together with his wife, are planned and calculated for effect.

"To be honest, I have big doubts about how much Trump can influence foreign policy in general. <...> I would not overestimate his ability to shape US foreign policy. But I definitely won't underestimate his ability to create a narrative and use his wife as a tool in this game," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Britain is urging the United States to speed up arms supplies to Kiev.

On July 28, Trump shortened the deadline for reaching an agreement on the Ukrainian conflict to 10-12 days. According to him, the 50-day deadline he set before that was "generous." The next day, the American leader said he was not sure of the effectiveness of the sanctions he intended to impose after the deadline.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on July 29 that Russia had taken note of the US president's statements about shortening the deadline for reaching an agreement on the conflict in Ukraine, but the special military operation (SVO) was taking its course.
