Former Austrian Foreign Minister noted Russians' pride in the country's nature
In Russia, Amur tigers are treated with respect, which cannot be said about Europe. This was stated by Karin Kneissl, adviser to the Amur Tiger Center, former Austrian Foreign Minister, head of the St. Petersburg State University "G.O.R.K.I" center on July 29 at the Izvestia press center during a press conference dedicated to the International Tiger Day.
According to her, Russia is proud of its nature, including Amur tigers.
"Amur tigers in Russia are not called predators that can eat other animals. This is exactly pride. A pride that amazed me. I don't see this in Germany, I don't see this in the European Union," Kneissl said.
She also stated that the Far East is the first love in Russia.
"The beauty of the Far East has shaken me to the core. <...> I saw this village, which is located in that area [the village of Ptichnik], but the infrastructure that has been created there is so advanced — there is everything you need. If it was possible for me to turn 20, then I would have been transported to those places," the former Austrian Foreign Minister admitted.
On July 24, it was reported that a specialized base for hunting surveillance services would be built in the YEAO in the village of Ptichnik on the lake shore. The main objectives of the project are to preserve the nature of the Far East and protect Amur tigers, which number about 750 individuals in Russia.
