Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier was seriously injured and disappeared while climbing Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. This was reported by the DPA news agency on July 29, citing her manager.

"Serious concern about Laura Dahlmeier: A former German biathlete was involved in a serious accident while climbing in the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan. A 31-year—old athlete was seriously injured as a result of a rockfall on Laila Peak," the agency said in a publication quoted by the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung.

According to DPA, the athlete, along with her climbing partner, was climbing Laila Peak to a height of about 6 thousand meters when a rockfall occurred. It is specified that they made the ascent with a minimum amount of equipment and without expedition logistics.

It is noted that due to the remoteness of the area, the rescue helicopter was able to reach the scene only in the morning. Rescuers have not yet managed to reach Dahlmeier due to the continued high risk of rockfall in the area. According to the agency, no traces of the biathlete were found during the inspection of the area.

On July 1, it was reported that a Russian man died as a result of a paraglider crash in a mountainous area in Tajikistan. It is specified that during the flight, the man's equipment failed, as a result of which he fell and died.
