MIPT specialists have developed a special system for studying the work of cardiac tissue. The device makes it possible to simultaneously measure the electrical activity of cells and their metabolism.

The technology can be used to analyze the readiness of a donor heart for transplantation, as well as to determine the most effective personalized therapy. To do this, using the complex, you can understand how certain drugs affect the tissues of a particular patient and determine the most appropriate one.

"Our proposed system allows us to use optical methods to see how individual molecules work in the mitochondria of heart cells. If there's something wrong with them, then we'll see it. When a heart is transplanted from one person to another, their compatibility is verified by genetic methods. If a suitable donor is found, then according to the protocol there are four hours to deliver the organ. However, it is often not possible to meet this standard. And then, with the help of our method, it is possible to understand whether the heart remains suitable for transplantation or not," said the author of the study, Mikhail Slotvitsky, senior researcher at the Laboratory of Experimental and Cellular Medicine at MIPT.

In addition, stem cells obtained from the patient's blood can be used for research in the device, which are transformed into heart tissue. It can be used to test how different types of therapy affect the patient and determine the most effective one, the scientist added.
