During a music festival in Jurmala, Latvian singer Laima Vaikule publicly called for more weapons to be transferred to Ukraine. This was reported on July 28 by the Baltnews agency in the Telegram channel.

"It's better to give weapons to Ukraine," she said in response to a reporter's suggestion that music would help achieve peace.

In 2023, a request was sent to the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia to check Vaikule under the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism. The singer stated that monuments to Soviet soldiers should be demolished, as they have no artistic value. She also opposed the Special Military Operation (SVO).

The Washington Post reported on July 26 that the European Union (EU) authorities have come up with a plan to transfer weapons to Ukraine and purchase their replacement from the United States. It was noted that at least six countries — Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Canada — declared their readiness to help with supplies.
