"The death toll from the ongoing monsoon rains in Pakistan has risen to 279 people, with eight more deaths reported in the last 24 hours," the material says.

It is specified that since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 28, at least 676 people have also been injured, more than 1.5 thousand houses have been damaged. The province of Punjab suffered the most damage, 151 deaths and 536 injuries were confirmed in its territory.

In addition, significant damage was caused to property and livestock. In total, more than 1.5 thousand residential buildings were damaged across the country, 362 of them were damaged during the last 24 hours. It is noted that at least 374 animals died as a result of the rains, which worsened the situation of communities dependent on agriculture.

A new wave of rains is expected to hit several regions of the country before July 31.

Earlier, on July 7, NDTV reported the deaths of at least 78 people due to floods and landslides in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Another 37 people were reported missing.
