On July 27, Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (NRC), spoke about the development of nature-like technologies in Russia.

"To have the technology, we need to be able to make a) powders of different sizes — from 50 to 200 microns, b) of different compositions and from different materials — metal, refractory metal and titanium, the mass of everything, and plastics are different, and composite materials, ceramics. We know how to do all this, and today the Kurchatov Institute has a pilot production facility that develops them and builds machines where they are produced," he said.

Kovalchuk stressed that the Ruspolymet plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region also produces these powders in sufficient quantities, therefore, a global base for technology development has been created in the country.

In addition, Russia has unique machines for production — this is the merit of the Shipbuilding Institute, its leadership and Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev, he added.

"Now we need to scale up the production of powders, scale up the production of machines and expand production: in Rosatom — for their parts, in Roscosmos — for their parts, in Rostec — for their parts. <...> And secondly, it is necessary to legalize the creation of the Kurchatov Institute — it exists, but it must be legalized — the Center scientific development and support and certification," concluded Kovalchuk.

Earlier, on June 19, Kovalchuk stressed that Russia must maintain and develop its technological leadership. He called for fully, sustainably, and reliably ensuring national security. According to him, Russia should take an important and worthy place in the space services market.
