Hungarian Foreign Minister calls obstacles to Trump's peace initiatives in Ukraine
The initiatives of US President Donald Trump could have led to more significant progress in the peace talks on Ukraine, if not for the obstacles from his predecessor, Joe Biden, and the leaders of European countries. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on July 27.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, he stressed that Western politicians, who made it difficult to implement Trump's diplomatic proposals, bear significant responsibility for what is happening.
"If former President Biden and European leaders had not obstructed President Trump's peace efforts over the past six months, he could have achieved much more success compared to the current situation," Szijjarto said.
In addition, he linked the current dynamics of the conflict with actions that, according to Budapest, hindered a possible political and diplomatic solution.
The day before, the US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said he was confident that it would be possible to achieve a settlement and end the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that this would be one of the "main achievements" for him as special envoy.
