Residents of the UK took a survey, according to which they named China, Russia and the United States the most powerful countries, emphasizing that their country's influence is decreasing every year. This was reported on July 27 by The Times newspaper with reference to the survey.

"Four out of ten voters believe that Britain is losing influence abroad. <...> China was the country that was most perceived as gaining strength (67%), followed by the United States (50%) and Russia (39%). <...> The United States is considered the most powerful country in the world (72%), followed by China (54%) and Russia (37%)," the newspaper said.

According to the publication, the United Kingdom ranks fifth in terms of power (17%), behind not only the top three, but also the European Union (18%). The sixth place was shared by Israel and Saudi Arabia (7% each).

The newspaper noted that UK residents perceive the international picture with concern, sensing external danger.

As The Times reported, Britons are also feeling overwhelmed by turbulence at home and are becoming increasingly frustrated by the inability to stop the record number of small boats making the dangerous journey across the English Channel.

Earlier, on July 17, it was reported that only 38% of Britons would trust the actions of the US authorities. According to the newspaper, trust has plummeted over the past year. The change in attitude towards Washington occurred after a "tumultuous year in American politics," especially influenced by the return of US President Donald Trump to the White House.
