- The Serbian Foreign Ministry announced its rejection of an alternative to European integration
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said at the first meeting of the new Balkan Peace Platform initiative that the country intends to abandon the alternative to European integration. This was announced on July 26 by the country's Foreign Ministry on the social network X.
"Djuric stated <...> that Serbia does not want an alternative to European integration, but strives for equal participation and an equal voice in the European Union (EU)," the statement said.
It is noted that the Balkans can retain the ability to discuss common problems, economic opportunities, as well as cooperation in the field of foreign policy and security with other EU countries and the world. It clarifies that it is important to strive for full membership in the EU and influence on the economy and social development of the European union.
Earlier, on April 16, Serbia's Minister of Family and Demography, Milica Djurgjevic-Stamenkovski, questioned the country's intention to join the EU due to the economic crisis. She added that if Brussels continues to pursue its current policy, then its further expansion is simply pointless.
