Rare asperatus clouds, also known as "diabolical" clouds, may appear in the sky over Moscow due to increased thunderstorms. Climatologist Olga Zolina from MIPT reported this to the Moscow City News agency.

She explained that these clouds are characterized by wavy and chaotic shapes, creating a gloomy and frightening appearance. Despite their appearance, they do not carry dangerous weather. In central Russia, asperatus was observed in spring, summer and autumn, and much less frequently in winter.

Their formation is possible with a combination of high humidity, strong evaporation from the Earth's surface and moderate vertical wind shear, writes Moscow 24. In addition, large droplets in the cloud are needed — from 10 to 100 microns. At the same time, too small drops or strong wind interfere with their formation.

According to Zolina, asperatus is often recorded near thunderstorms, although they themselves may not be part of the storm.

Earlier on July 25, Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the Meteonosti news agency, spoke about the weather expected in Moscow in early August. According to the expert, after the prolonged July heat, the last month of summer will continue with fairly pleasant and almost dry weather.
