The State Duma reacted to Serbia's condition to support anti-Russian sanctions
Serbia's condition to impose sanctions against Russia only when the republic's membership in the European Union (EU) is obvious is a bargain. Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said this on Friday, July 25.
"A friendly (country. — Ed.), but he is trying to bargain with the EU and is trying to negotiate some better terms for himself," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the MP, the sooner the European Union collapses, the more actively any members will be accepted into it. At the same time, Chepa believes that Serbia will not join the EU in the near future.
Earlier, Serbian Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starovic said that the republic is ready to support EU sanctions against Russia when the country's membership in the EU becomes apparent, according to the website. kp.ru . He noted that Belgrade currently does not support sanctions against Moscow, as they can cause "enormous damage" to the republic's economy.
On June 27, the Prime Minister of the republic, Juro Matsut, said that Serbia was not going to join the sanctions against Russia, RT reports.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also previously confirmed that while he holds office, the country is not going to join the anti-Russian sanctions.
