- Israel and the United States are searching for alternative ways to free the hostages from Gaza.
Israel and the United States are searching for alternative ways to free hostages from the Gaza Strip, as well as to end hostilities. This was announced on July 25 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"Together with our U.S. allies, we are now considering alternative options for returning our hostages home, ending the terrorist rule of Hamas, and ensuring lasting peace for Israel and our region," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
At the same time, Netanyahu agreed with the words of US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, that the radical Palestinian movement Hamas is an obstacle to concluding an agreement on the release of hostages.
The day before, Witkoff said that the United States had withdrawn the negotiating team from Doha after a response from Hamas, which "does not indicate a desire" to achieve a truce in the Gaza Strip. The United States also announced its intention to consider alternative ways to return the hostages from Gaza in connection with the response of the negotiating team.
On July 23, it was reported that Israel had offered Hamas the release of 125 Palestinians sentenced to life in prison in exchange for hostages during negotiations on a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. According to media reports, the Israeli side also expressed its readiness to release 1,100 Palestinians detained after October 7, 2023.
