A court in Moscow sentenced Moldovan businessman Platon to 24 years in prison in absentia.

The Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow has sentenced Moldovan businessman and banker Vyacheslav Platon in absentia to 24 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony. This was announced on July 25 in the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on the website.

It is noted that the defendant is charged with two crimes in the criminal case under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 3 of Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Making currency transactions for transferring funds in foreign currency to non-resident accounts using forged documents"). At the same time, the total amount of funds withdrawn amounted to more than 48 billion rubles.

The businessman is currently on the international wanted list.

From June 2013 to May 2014, Platon and his accomplices transferred more than 126 billion rubles from Russian credit institutions to bank accounts of a non-resident represented by JSC CB Moldindconbank. The operation was carried out using forged documents. In July 2022, Platon was put on the international wanted list. In March of this year, Platon was detained in the UK for extradition to Moldova.
