The Federation Council has approved a law on expanding the list of grounds for revoking acquired Russian citizenship. The plenary session was held on July 25.

The list includes 20 new grounds on the basis of which the acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation will be deprived. Amendments have been made to Article 24 of the Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation".

According to the amendments, deprivation of citizenship is provided for, among other things, for murders and sexual violence committed against minors.

In addition, the grounds for revoking acquired citizenship will also be public calls for terrorist activities, justification or propaganda of terrorism, unlawful influence on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation and assistance to the enemy. The list also includes the organization of illegal migration.

On July 17, the State Duma adopted amendments to the draft law on the deprivation of acquired citizenship under a number of additional articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that these rules will not apply to residents of new regions of Russia.
