The United States has rejected French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognize the State of Palestine as independent and sovereign. On July 25, White House Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote about this on the social network X.

"The United States strongly rejects Macron's plan to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. This reckless decision only serves to promote the Palestinian Hamas movement and sets the world back," the statement said.

He called the recognition of Palestine a slap in the face to the victims of October 7, when Hamas attacked Israel.

Earlier, on July 24, Macron announced his intention to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in 2026. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents.

On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the decision, considering it an encouragement of terror.
