German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said at a meeting with French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecorny that strengthening Europe's defense potential is possible only if Germany and France cooperate closely. This was reported on the official website of the ministry on July 24.

"Pistorius was convinced that strengthening Europe's defense capability would be successful only with close German-French solidarity and with other partners," the German Defense Ministry said.

According to Pistorius, it is important for the defense of Europe to develop innovative military programs — the Future Combat Air System and the Main Ground Combat System.

Also during the meeting, Pistorius and Lecorn discussed strengthening support for Ukraine.

Earlier, on May 7, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron announced their intention to reset relations between the states in order to strengthen the European Union. According to Merz, the states will better coordinate support for Kiev and coordinate national defense issues and procurement projects more closely.
