Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh expressed gratitude for French President Emmanuel Macron's intention to recognize the State of Palestine. He wrote about this on July 24 in the social network X.
"We express our gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron for his letter addressed to His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he reaffirmed France's unwavering position and confirmed his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September," the statement said.
He also thanked Saudi Arabia for its assistance in recognizing Palestine as an independent and sovereign State. The Vice President of the country stressed that this step by France shows the commitment of the countries to international law.
Earlier in the day, Macron announced his intention to recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in 2026. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents.
