On July 24, Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, held a meeting within the framework of incident No. 55 "Sewage treatment Plants", which was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Construction, Rosprirodnadzor, deputies of the State Duma and heads of regions.

"In recent months, construction work has been completed at eight sites. Seven more, according to the approved "road maps", should be completed this year. I would like to note that compared to the beginning of the year, the number of facilities that have achieved the standards of wastewater treatment has almost tripled," Patrushev said.

He noted the effectiveness of the on-site monitoring system in problem regions. So, a working group created on his behalf in 2024 in the Yaroslavl region checked the implementation of measures at seven facilities included in the federal project "Volga Rehabilitation". According to the deputy chairman of the government, this approach makes it possible to resolve complex issues on the spot and identify additional problems that require common attention. Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed to continue on-site inspections.

During the meeting, the main factors that restrain the dynamics of the construction of facilities and their implementation of regulatory cleaning indicators were also considered. Among them is the issue of staffing the industry.

"Provision of qualified specialists is an important condition for the effective functioning of wastewater treatment plants. Without this, their full-fledged operation is simply impossible. All regions should analyze the human resources situation. It is especially important to carry out such work on projects that are nearing completion. It is necessary to train specialists in a timely and high-quality manner to launch new facilities. People must have the necessary competencies," Patrushev said.

Mechanisms of interaction with industrial enterprises were also discussed at the meeting. The Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the need for their unconditional compliance with the standards for wastewater treatment discharged into a centralized wastewater disposal system, and also instructed federal agencies to propose appropriate incentive measures. It is clarified that following the meeting, the governors were recommended to supplement the work format with personal visits to problematic sites in the regions.

Patrushev said on June 4 that important changes had been made to the regulatory regulation of the construction and operation of wastewater treatment plants over the past year. He added that the experience gained will be taken into account in the implementation of the national Environmental Well-being project launched in 2025.
