Oncologist named the causes of "burning" hands
The burning sensation and redness of the palms can be associated not only with skin diseases, but also with serious pathologies, including cancer. Suna Isakova, an oncologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, told Izvestia on July 25, explaining that such symptoms can occur due to paraneoplastic syndromes.
"In some malignant neoplasms, tumor cells produce biologically active substances, provoking the development of paraneoplastic syndromes. They affect different systems, including the skin," the specialist explained.
One of these manifestations is erythema palmarum — redness of the palms, accompanied by itching and burning. However, as the oncologist emphasized, this symptom is rarely the only sign of cancer.
"Palm erythema can occur not only in malignant processes, but also in other diseases, such as cirrhosis of the liver or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. These conditions themselves increase the risk of developing cancer," the doctor noted.
At the same time, the specialist clarified that redness of the palms in itself should not be considered a direct sign of cancer.
"More often, patients already have other symptoms, and a detailed survey allows the doctor to build the correct diagnostic algorithm," she added.
The oncologist also recommended regular preventive checkups, especially for people with chronic diseases and bad habits.
"For any complaints, it is important to contact a doctor in a timely manner — face—to-face or through telemedicine services," Isakova summed up.
Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia on July 23 that itching in the ears can signal not only harmless causes, but also serious diseases. According to the expert, itching in children should be of particular concern.
