Matvienko stressed the usefulness of telephone conversations between Putin and Trump

The telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump were very useful. This was announced on July 24 by the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.

She clarified that she considers the development of the situation since Trump's return to the White House to be very positive, since a multi-vector dialogue began between Moscow and Washington within six months of Trump's return to the White House. She stressed that there were no bilateral contacts at all during the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

"The talks between the leaders of our countries, our president, and the President of the United States were very useful. <...> First, the approaches to certain problems were clarified directly, without intermediaries. There was an opportunity for a personal exchange of views, because relations between Russia and the United States cannot be reduced solely to the Ukrainian case, this is wrong," Matvienko said, answering a question from Izvestia.

She added that Russian-American relations have a broader dimension not only for bilateral ties, but also for global politics. In addition, the chairman of the Federation Council clarified that dialogue between the security services and other channels has now been restored.

Matvienko noted that Moscow is interested not only in having its position listened to, but also in hearing the arguments and root causes of the conflict. She stressed that this requires time and patience, and expressed her willingness to continue the relevant dialogue.

In addition, the Chairman of the Federation Council pointed out the importance and necessity of the meeting between the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States. According to her, personal communication and contacts will not replace telephone conversations or the exchange of letters and appeals. She stressed that the Russian side has repeatedly stated its readiness to hold a meeting at the level of heads of state.
