A new RoboCop game has appeared in Russian stores and marketplaces: Rogue City — Unfinished Business about Robocop, an iconic action movie character from the nineties. The new product is available with limited localization in Russian — with subtitles, but without spoken speech. Unfinished Business allows you to play as an iconic character for the first time even before turning into a cyborg in a series of flashback memories, but the list of advantages does not end there.

Robo-who?

The story of cyborg cop Alex Murphy began in July 1987 with the release of the first film "Robocop", which became a cultural phenomenon. The image of Murphy— a symbiosis of man and machine— has entered the annals of action films, although the iconic phrase I'll be back does not belong to him, but to the Terminator, which is why Robocop is often confused with the cyborg terminator. Since then, the RoboCop franchise has included 4 films, 4 TV series, and 6 games. But the first film, which was shot by the legendary Paul Verhoeven at that time, still remains out of competition.

In mid–July 2025, the franchise expanded with a new artifact, the video game RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business. This is a direct sequel to the 2023 game, developed by Polish studio Teyon (known for Terminator: Resistance and Rambo: The Video Game). Without a doubt, the developers have worked out 100% nostalgia for the eighties, preserving the spirit of the original — including the voice acting of Peter Weller (who plays Murphy in classic films) and Anna Lewis (Robocop's partner). The publisher of the game, Nacon, was pleasantly surprised by the sales. The head of the company, Benoit Clerc, even called RoboCop: Rogue City an ideal example of what a game can be: a major mainstream brand and a high-quality product.

Unfinished Business is a first—person shooter, in fact, an independent adventure in the Rogue City universe. The action takes place in the Detroit of the future, even if it is called Old Detroit immediately after the events of RoboCop 2: elite mercenaries capture the OmniTower apartment complex and turn it into a fortress. Robocop's goal is to break through to the top by stopping the villains and restoring order.

Teyon Studio specializes in "transferring" action movies to games, and Unfinished Business is no exception. Despite budget constraints, the game captures the atmosphere and fidelity to the canon. The project manages not only to preserve the atmosphere of old films, but also to periodically literally recreate episodes that everyone watched on VHS tapes 30 years ago.

In many ways, this is why Teyon games are forgiven for being somewhat cheap, saving on appearance, and having technical problems, which led to the sarcastic term "Polish shooter" at the time. However, the novelty is better than any classic Polish shooter, as the authors took into account all the criticism after the release of Terminator: Resistance in 2019 and made Robocop the most friendly game not only for old—school gamers, but also for beginners. A copy of the game was provided by Achivka, the largest distributor of video games and consoles in the Russian Federation.

How to stop being afraid and start playing

The plot continues the story after the events of the original game: after the defeat of the gangs of the "New Guy in Town", the streets of Old Detroit are still teeming with crime. The OCP Corporation's project, the large—scale OmniTower residential complex, conceived for the well-being of the residents of Old Detroit, gives hope for change. However, the world is being destroyed by a group of elite mercenaries armed with high-tech weapons: they capture the tower and turn it into a deadly fortress, threatening public order.

Robocop must get inside the Omnibus Tower to stop the villains. The gameplay promises intense encounters with a new generation of enemies: from flying drones and exploding bots to anti-personnel turrets, armored units with mini-bullets, special forces with jetpacks, and even enemies with katanas that look more like machines than people. Each floor of the tower is a maze of deadly traps.

The game carefully copies the style of the 1980s: gloomy locations, dialogues in the spirit of the original, enemies — from bandits to elite soldiers. Robocop will be helped by his classic arsenal: the iconic Auto-9 pistol and an innovative cryogenic cannon. Players will also be able to use devastating blows, such as smashing an opponent's skull against concrete walls or vending machines with drinks. For the first time, gamers will be able to see flashbacks of Alex Murphy before he became a cyborg cop.

The plot of the supplement does not pretend to be original: as in the films "Raid" or "Dredd" (2012), and even earlier, of course, in "Die Hard", bandits seize a skyscraper and establish their power there, and Robocop alone can restore justice.

The Slavic theme, always strong in the franchise, let me down this time. Recall that the films featured such colorful bandits as Emil Antonovsky or Vladimir Molotov. And for Rogue City 2023, they came up with a new villain, Wendell Antonowski, with a hint of Slavic origin. But Unfinished Business doesn't have a Russian, or at least a memorable antagonist.

The project successfully emphasizes the essence of the hero: 50% human, 50% robot — and the hero is one hundred percent. The novelty can be a celebration for fans of classics: it's still a simple but atmospheric shooter, where the main thing is to plunge into the dystopian world of Detroit, where the law always defeats crime. Against this background, it's even strange that the last large-scale attempt to bring Robocop back to the big screens in 2014 failed miserably.
