- Bloomberg announced the breakdown of Ukraine's negotiations in the EU after the law on NABU and SAP
The law of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, which almost deprived the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), jeopardized negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU). This was reported by Bloomberg on July 24, citing data from officials familiar with the discussions in European capitals.
The move took Kiev's allies by surprise and may have caused long-term damage to its aspirations to join the European Union.
It is noted that due to the new law, Ukraine's efforts to finance the conflict by the West are also jeopardized. According to Bloomberg, EU leaders consider the adoption of the document "a significant blow to Ukraine's aspirations for Western integration."
According to one of the interlocutors, Zelensky made his "biggest mistake" since 2019.
The law on limiting the powers of two anti-corruption agencies entered into force on July 23. A day earlier, mass protests against Zelensky's decision began in Ukraine. Rallies were reported in Kiev and Lviv.
As the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on July 23, Zelensky adopted the law on limiting the powers of NABU and SAP in connection with the investigation of structures against his entourage. It was noted that the rush to adopt the law was caused by investigations into the head of the Kiev regime and members of his entourage.
