China welcomes the consensus of Russia and Ukraine on the exchange of prisoners. This was announced to reporters on July 24 by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, during a briefing.

"We have noticed that Russia and Ukraine recently held another round of direct talks and reached consensus on humanitarian issues such as prisoner exchanges. China welcomes this," TASS quoted him as saying.

In addition, Guo Jiakun expressed hope for the desire of Moscow and Kiev for a political settlement of the conflict.

The third round of negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict ended on the evening of July 23. The meeting of the delegations took place in the Chiragan Palace in Istanbul in a closed format and lasted about an hour.

Following the talks, the head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, said that Russia had offered Ukraine the exchange of at least 1.2 thousand more prisoners of war from each side. It also became known that Moscow and Kiev conducted a prisoner exchange according to the agreements reached in Istanbul on June 2.
