The economic relations between Beijing and Brussels have reached a turning point, as the parties should discuss a model of cooperation and come to a more equitable trade relationship. This was announced on July 23 by the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, Jens Eskelund.

"If we are in a situation where very strong pressure from China leads to losses for European companies, then, of course, the question arises: 'Wait, why are we doing this?'" he said in an interview with the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper.

At the same time, Ekselund noted that the last 50 years of bilateral cooperation in trade have been equally beneficial to both sides. However, trade relations between China and the EU have now become strained. Exelund attributed this to attempts by both sides to avoid a trade war waged by American leader Donald Trump.

In conclusion, the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China called on the parties to rebalance relations.

Earlier, on July 22, American Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the United States would try to negotiate with China on extending the period of duty relief. Washington and Beijing will hold a meeting in Stockholm on July 28 and 29, where the parties will work on a possible extension of the deal.

The next day, Trump announced that the United States and China were close to concluding a trade deal.
