The deputy spoke about the consequences for Ukraine due to the law on NABU and SAP
The Ukrainian authorities have effectively eliminated the independence of anti-corruption bodies by reassigning the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Alexey Zhuravlev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, told Izvestia about this on July 23.
"All these independent anti-corruption bureaus were created by the West in Kiev specifically to keep the Ukrainian authorities under control. And they succeeded for a very long time, until the investigators stepped on the tail of Zelensky's closest circle," he said.
According to him, anti-corruption authorities have launched investigations against high-ranking officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov and head of the presidential office Andriy Ermak.
"In this situation, Zelensky considered it necessary to stand up for his friends — NABU and SAP simply reassigned himself so that they would not dig where they did not need to, otherwise they could inadvertently come out to him," the deputy said.
He also linked these changes to possible inspections by Western auditors that could reveal embezzlement of military aid funds.
"Of course, no one in the West likes this, because the Kiev regime has long been suspected of stealing money for military aid," the source stressed.
At the same time, in his opinion, Western curators turn a blind eye to corruption, since it benefits them as well.
"All these criminal schemes benefit Western partners no less than those who steal money in Ukraine. This means that they will grumble and return to the same amounts of funding as before," Zhuravlev summed up.
Earlier that day, the head of the Kiev regime signed a law on depriving NABU and SAP of independence.
There were mass protests against the law on the limitation of the powers of departments in the country. One of the posters at the rally in the city said that Zelensky's law was a "capitulation to corruption."
