Moldovan diaspora asks Chisinau to open more polling stations in Russia
The Moldovan Diaspora of Russia on Wednesday, July 23, handed over to the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow a petition asking to open more polling stations.
It is specified that in total more than 2 thousand signatures were collected. In addition, representatives of the diaspora asked for the opportunity to vote by mail in the parliamentary elections to be held on September 28.
"We urge you, in order for our voice to be heard, to take measures to open as many polling stations in Russia as possible and allow citizens of the Republic of Moldova located on the territory of the Russian Federation to vote by mail," follows from the text of the petition, which is cited by TASS.
Ilan Shor, the leader of the Pobeda opposition bloc, called the decision of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry to open only two polling stations in Russia for parliamentary elections "discrimination against his own people."
"Two sites are a drop in the ocean for the world's largest Moldovan diaspora. Let me remind you that hundreds of thousands of our citizens live in Russia, whom the Moldovan Foreign Ministry stupidly deprives of the right to vote," said Shor, quoted by Canal 5 in the Telegram channel.
An electoral bloc was formed in Moldova on July 22. It was clarified that it included four opposition parties of the country: the Party of Socialists, the Party of Communists, the parties "The Heart of Moldova" and "The Future of Moldova".
Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon told Izvestia on June 20 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025) that the next few months will be key for the country due to the upcoming parliamentary elections. Dodon clarified that other Western leaders seek to retain power for the President of the republic, Maia Sandu, but for this they need control over parliament.
