Irina Podnosova was born on October 29, 1953 in Pskov. In 1975, she graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University (now St. Petersburg State University). She began her career in the justice system, working as a consultant to the Leningrad Regional Executive Committee. In 1990, she became a judge of the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region, and from 2003 to 2013 she headed this court.
In 2020, Podnosova was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation — Chairman of the judicial board for economic disputes. In early 2024, she assumed the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
