Reuters has learned about Trump's search for a replacement for SpaceX
US President Donald Trump is looking for alternatives to billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX to implement the Golden Dome missile defense system project. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 22.
"The Trump administration is expanding its search for partners to create the Golden Dome missile defense system, involving Amazon's Kuiper project and major defense contractors, while the tension between [Trump] and Elon Musk threatens SpaceX's dominance in the program," the publication says.
At the same time, according to the newspaper, the Pentagon and the White House began searching for alternative contractors for the project even before the aggravation of relations between Trump and Musk. The reason was the authorities' desire to reduce dependence on a single supplier, according to Reuters.
In May, the American leader said that the new Golden Dome missile defense system was necessary for the United States to survive. According to Trump, the country's administration plans to allocate about $175 billion for it.
