A drug has been developed in Russia to help patients with spinal muscular atrophy. Vsevolod Belousov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Director General of the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the FMBA of Russia, said this on July 22 at the Izvestia News Center during a press conference "Advanced domestic developments for the treatment of brain diseases", dedicated to World Brain Day.

He clarified that the drug was currently being tested on animals with spinal muscular atrophy.

"With a single slaughter, animals have been living for almost a year — the drug has shown its effectiveness," Belousov said.

According to him, this drug targets the liver and heart ten times less than its Western counterparts.

The expert shared that the drug could enter the market as early as 2029-2030.

Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, said on June 25 that the symptoms preceding a stroke depend on its cause. According to him, hemorrhagic stroke occurs with hypertension, when blood vessels rupture and hemorrhage occurs in the brain.

The news is being updated.
