On July 21, 18-year-old Russian athlete Alexey Danilov set a record in the 400 m running as part of a track and field meeting among the Union State teams. He covered the distance in 44.56 seconds.
The second place was taken by Belarusian Georgy Maneev (46.92), the third — by Russian Stepan Egorov (47.21).
In doing so, Danilov broke Viktor Markin's record set at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. Then the athlete covered the distance in 44.60 seconds.
"I was very surprised at the finish line. <...> But not in quick seconds, but on the contrary. My eyesight is not very good, and I looked at the scoreboard at the wrong time and wondered why it was so slow. But then it was my turn to be surprised again, but this time for a very pleasant reason. I still don't believe what I did," Danilov told TASS.
Danilov also broke the 1987 European junior record of 45.01 seconds, she added.Газета.Ru ".
