The turnout of the weekend reached almost 1 million people, after it remained at a dangerously low level of 800,000 last weekend, according to the data from the EAIS database. At the same time, the novelties of legal rental did not show themselves very brightly, the most successful was the horror "Urban Legends: Nightmare Park". Short films still have the best experience, especially those with which the Hollywood novelty "Superman" is shown. Izvestia analyzes the results of the weekend at the box office.

The four box office leaders remained the same

The top positions of the box office quietly moved from the past this weekend and even increased their performance somewhere. Anton Megerdichev's fantastic comedy "The Plagiarist" is in the first place again. Last time, she had 42 million rubles in fees, this time — 33 million. But the operating time per session increased from 2.8 thousand rubles to 3.4 thousand.

In second place, with a very small gap, "Not alone at home 2", 31 million rubles. There were 38 million . The third place went to "Grandpa's Village," where there were 32 million and now there are 29 million. The fourth place went to the Dakota Johnson romcom "The Materialist," which turned 21 million rubles into 18 million.

In all cases, the drop is not that large, which may indicate both stability and the fact that cinemas are in no hurry to replace the sessions of these films with others. Together, these four paintings accounted for about 60% of all weekend sessions.

—New high—profile releases are released less frequently in summer than in high season," says Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain. — Therefore, large projects with marketing budgets are fixed at the top and collect their cash for a long time. The leadership now belongs to comedies and family releases, the main genres of vacations.

The main novelty of the weekend

Horror "Urban Legends: Park of Nightmares" took the fifth place at the national box office, collecting more than 12 million rubles and turned out to be the most successful new release in Russia. At the same time, it is curious that at the same time another horror was released, only two years ago. "Saw X" earned not much less than "Legends", 11 million, as a result, it got to the seventh place of the Russian box office. Although it would seem that the movie has been online for a long time and fans should have already watched it. But it's worth noting that his production time is even slightly higher than that of "Legends", and it turns out that the audience of this genre was divided roughly in half this weekend, choosing where to go to be scared for fun.

"The anniversary part of the legendary Saw film series has received the highest ratings in the franchise from both critics and viewers,— said Olga Zinyakova. — In the KARO network, the figures correspond to the national average and, given the cult status of the films, Saw X may linger in the top 10 rentals this summer. The only thing that can compete with the film in the near future is the horror "One Whole" starring Dave Franco.

It's hard to imagine how much the film would have collected in Russia if it had been released simultaneously with the rest of the world in the fall of 2023. Izvestia then talked about the film and its very impressive collections, especially convincing against the background of a modest budget.

How "Neurobeat" worked

The fantastic mischievous comedy "Neurobatya" began its rolling career with the 8th place and 9 million rubles. Considering that, for example, the "Urban Legends", who are in 5th place, have 12 million rubles, it is worth bearing in mind that the difference between the top 10 figures sometimes amounts to hundreds of thousands of rubles, releases are breathing down each other's necks. And yet there is a feeling that "Neurobat" should have earned more, the film has good reviews, good advertising.

— Despite the intense competition, the comedy with Denis Vlasenko can still get its own way, the audience likes it, — says Olga Zinyakova. — Yes, "Neurobat" could not cope with the rental holders and could only get to the 8th place of the weekend's top. As many as three films with related audiences are running on a good sundress — among them the comedy "Plagiarist" and two family releases "Not Alone at Home 2" and "To Grandpa's Village".

The summer rental really lacks a lot of genre diversity. And the viewer chooses something light and simple, leaving out relatively complex dramas, documentaries, not to mention experiments and pure arthouse. On the other hand, if the weather continues to deteriorate, the viewer will be forced to prefer real walks, for example, a cinematic "Walk": this Thursday, Alexey Uchitel's film will get a new screen life, as a few weeks ago a similar picture "Peter FM" did the same. You can grumble that you should have released these paintings in a different order, or you can just go and review them, as well as another "re-release", the wonderful anime "Letter for Momo" from 2011 from one of the creators of "Ghost in the Shell" Hiroyuki Okiura. Time-tested masterpieces will definitely not yield to any genre cinema.
