The husband of a resident of Udmurtia arrested for a comment on the Web explained the reasons for her action.

Evgenia Rogozin, a resident of Udmurtia (listed as an extremist and terrorist by Rosfinmonitoring), expressed outrage in her comment about the general situation with grocery prices in stores, and there was no threat in her words. Her husband Artur Dovgal told Izvestia about this on July 21.

In November 2024, a woman left a comment under a post about a record rise in the price of butter. Oksana Lut, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, then explained the increase in product prices by increasing the income level of Russians. Rogozin's comment contained the phrase "burn the witch." In February 2025, the woman was charged under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to carry out terrorist activities using the Internet").

Dovgal noted that the words "burn the witch" have recently become a "meme expression" and they are often used as indignation at someone's deed or statement.

"...many people began to support her. Why? Because no one saw any threat in this phrase, really on the Internet. Everyone understands that the expression is a joke, that it's just a metaphor," Rogozin's husband added.

He also described his wife as a sincere and emotional woman who can speak out in case of injustice. According to Dovgal, she expressed indignation not at the minister, but about the whole issue of increasing the cost of food.

"Maybe you really don't need to write unnecessary things, but you still need to share, it seems to me that the person just wrote in his heart," the man shared.

Rogozin is an individual entrepreneur and part—time salesman in a store, her husband said. She always made allowances for military personnel who were mobilized for a special military operation and sent them to the front with prayer.

Dovgal said that in February, the court placed Rogozin under house arrest, and after four months decided to move her to a pre-trial detention center. The reason was a violation of the conditions of house arrest.

The trial of Evgenia Rogozin will take place on August 25.
