Erdogan pointed to Israel's use of the conflict in Syria to occupy the region
Israel is using the conflict with Syria to occupy the region. This was announced on July 21 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"The main problem is the conflict between the two sides. But an even more serious strategic problem is Israel's attempt to occupy the region, using this conflict as a pretext," A Haber TV channel quoted him as saying.
The Turkish leader stressed that Israel is not interested in stability in the region. According to Erdogan, a united Syria will not benefit the Israeli side, so such provocations continue.
On July 19, Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa ordered the immediate introduction of a ceasefire in the province of Suwayda, and security forces were deployed in several areas to ensure its implementation. The President warned that actions contrary to this order would be considered a violation of Syria's sovereignty.
On the same day, the US Special Representative for Syria, Tom Barrack, announced that Israel and Syria had reached a ceasefire agreement with the support of Washington. He also noted that the United States is calling on the Druze, Bedouins and Sunnis to lay down their arms in order to build a "new unified Syrian identity."
