A criminal case was initiated into the fact that the Nova company damaged agricultural soil in the Taimyr region. This was reported on July 21 in the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

It is specified that during the construction of the oil pipeline, which was carried out from 2023 to 2024, the corporation's employees removed a layer of fertile soil on the agricultural site, but did not take care of the disposal of municipal solid waste, burying them on the spot.

"Laboratory studies of the earth samples have shown an excess concentration of copper, nickel, zinc and nitrate ions. The area of contamination exceeded 2.6 thousand square meters, the damage caused to the soil amounted to 45 million rubles," the ministry said in a statement.

It is noted that a criminal case was opened on this fact under Article 246 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of environmental protection rules during work"). Investigative measures are also being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

On March 4, local residents living in Adygea announced the occurrence of an "environmental disaster" that was recorded near the Chibiy Canal. It was clarified that dozens of rare birds presumably died due to dumping waste into the water.
