In the coming years, Germany risks facing a shortage of electricity, as the capacity of alternative sources will not be able to fully meet the country's needs. This was reported on July 19 by the German newspaper Bild.

"The new German government has fallen into a dangerous energy trap: electricity consumption in Germany will increase dramatically in the coming years," the publication says.

It is clarified that the German Ministry of Economy doubts the effectiveness of wind farms and solar installations, since their expansion is too expensive and is estimated at € 600 billion. According to the head of the Ministry of Economy, Katerina Reiche, the expansion of the use of renewable sources should be more closely linked to the expansion of the electric grid.

The projected increase in energy consumption associated with the development of technology and electric mobility threatens the ability of renewable energy sources to meet the needs of the country after the abandonment of coal.

"We need gas—fired power plants when there is no wind and no sun," Reiche said.

This plan was supported by the industry, which points to the insufficiency of the existing power grid to meet all the needs of the state.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on July 16 that a quarter of British citizens are unable to pay their electricity bills on time due to high prices. It was clarified that currently about 24% of households have overdue bills.
