Baku and Yerevan are very close to signing a peace treaty. This was announced on July 19 by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a speech at the III Shusha Global Media Forum.
"I think we are very close to signing a peace treaty," the Azertac news agency quoted him as saying.
According to him, the text can be initialed in advance. Aliyev stressed that Baku had already made such a proposal in Abu Dhabi. At the same time, the Azerbaijani leader noted that initialing the document does not mean signing it.
Earlier, on July 10, Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met and exchanged views on key aspects of the peace agenda. It was clarified that they had reached an understanding to continue negotiations in the working groups and at higher levels. The Armenian Foreign Ministry called their meeting effective.
