Merz called it difficult to advance the policy on Ukraine in the European Union
The promotion of Ukraine policy in the European Union (EU) has become difficult, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on July 18.
"Now we see how difficult, for example, the EU's policy towards Ukraine is," the Chancellor said during a large summer press conference, the transcript of which was published in the press service of the German government.
According to him, the EU is being criticized deservedly, because it has become bureaucratic and too regulated. Therefore, it reacts very slowly to various events.
Merz also cited Slovakia as an example. According to him, he has talked a lot with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in recent days, and they agreed on the adoption of the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions, but this process took "a lot of time."
On the same day, Merz announced that Ukraine would not be admitted to the European Union in an accelerated manner, and this would definitely not happen until the end of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the resolution of the Ukrainian issue is paramount.
