The expert shared tips on first aid for injuries in nature
Outdoor activities provide an opportunity to regain strength and recharge your batteries, but they also come with risks such as bruises, sprains and burns. Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, told Izvestia on July 20 about how to minimize these dangers.
According to the expert, bruises and sprains often occur due to careless movements. In case of injury, it is recommended to apply cold to the damaged area for 10-15 minutes.
"If a person cannot lean on his leg or move his arm, this is an alarming signal. To fix a limb, you can use improvised materials: a stick, a branch or a trekking pole, wrapping it with a cloth and carefully securing it with a belt, bandage or handkerchief," Kosheleva said.
It is also important to pay attention to cuts and abrasions: the wound should be rinsed with clean water, treated with an antiseptic and covered with a bandage. It is not recommended to use water from natural sources for washing.
As for sunburn and thermal burns, Kosheleva added, they can be avoided with sunscreen, a hat and light clothing. She also warned against being careless with fire when cooking.
In addition, before going out into nature, you should carefully plan the route and format of your vacation, even if it's just a short walk. It is recommended to notify your loved ones about the expected place and time of return, as well as to travel with companies, especially in unfamiliar areas. Shoes should be comfortable and suitable for the conditions, and clothes should match the weather. Don't forget to bring spare items and weather protection, as well as charge your phone and navigator.
Earlier, on June 30, Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, Candidate of Medical Sciences, expert doctor at the Hemotest laboratory, told how to prepare for a hike, provide first aid if necessary, and who should not go into the forest alone at all. According to her, it is worth taking a first-aid kit with you for a trip to nature. It should contain painkillers, bandages, antiseptics and insect bites, as you can get injured, tick bite or face other dangers in the forest.
