- The Foreign Ministry announced a tightening of Japan's rhetoric about alleged threats from the Russian Federation
Tokyo is specifically toughening up its rhetoric about alleged threats from Russia. In this regard, Moscow warns that such tactics carry risks. This was announced on July 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"Tokyo is purposefully, including in the public space, tightening its rhetoric about imaginary threats emanating from Russia, North Korea, as well as China's actions in the Taiwan Strait, thereby trying to justify its course towards accelerated militarization and increasing military-technical cooperation with Western allies, primarily from non—regional NATO countries," he said. She was quoted in the Telegram channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
As Zakharova noted, because of this, Russia regularly warns Japan through diplomatic channels that such actions pose risks to the stability and security of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). They are also stimulating a new stage of the arms race. In addition, the rhetoric about alleged threats from the Russian Federation will affect bilateral relations, which are currently going through "difficult times."
"If risks and challenges to the security of the Russian Federation are identified in this area, we will respond additionally," Zakharova concluded.
Earlier, on July 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly protested to the Japanese Embassy over the participation of the air self-defense forces of the state in the large-scale exercises of the US Armed Forces Resolute Force Pacific near the borders of Russia. According to the Foreign Ministry, such actions by Tokyo pose a threat to the security of the Russian Federation.
