The Verkhovna Rada explained the reason for the US refusal to appoint Umerov as ambassador.

The United States did not agree on the appointment of the former head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, because of his close contact with the head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Andrei Ermak. This was announced on July 17 by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

"This signal is somehow connected, among other things, with Rustem Umerov's rather close loyalty to the head of the presidential office, and he decided to send Olga Stefanyshina there anyway," he said in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
