Taking medications for weight loss, carried out without consulting a specialist, can affect the development of a variety of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) in humans. Veronika Neudakhina, an endocrinologist at the Sberbank Health Medical company, announced this on July 18.

According to her, the dosage of medicines for weight loss based on such active substances as exenatide, liraglutide, lixisenatide, semaglutide, dulaglutide can be prescribed and correctly calculated only by a doctor, since these drugs have many contraindications and their uncontrolled intake can lead to a number of negative health consequences.

"One of the rare but very serious side effects is acute pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, and intestinal atony, a pathological condition in which the intestinal wall loses the ability to contract necessary to move food through the gastrointestinal tract. Both of these conditions are life—threatening," she said "Газете.ги ".

In addition, as Neudakhina noted, common side effects from taking such medications are nausea, vomiting, stool disorders, headache, insomnia, lethargy and decreased blood sugar levels.

The doctor said that medications for artificial weight loss can reduce or eliminate hunger altogether, which will force the body to switch to a "storage mode" in which fat reserves will be spent last. She also recalled the existence of the so-called "yo-yo effect," according to which a person who stops taking weight loss medications regains all the lost pounds, sometimes even with a margin.

In addition, according to the expert, such drugs can affect the development of senile asthenia syndrome, which can lead to an increased risk of fractures, as well as reduce life expectancy.

The doctor urged people who want to lose weight to contact specialists who can find a competent approach to their patient's individual problems and help them get rid of extra pounds in a safe way for the body.

On June 23, Galina Rogozhkina, a gastroenterologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, and Dmitry Gurov, a pharmacist and head of the Sber Eaptek pharmacy, gave Russians tips on losing weight in the summer without harm to their health. So, physical activity, walking, eating with a deficit of 10-15% of the daily value, slow chewing and exclusion from the diet of sweets, white bread, fast food and fatty foods can allow you to lose 1 kg per week, which will occur in the most gentle way for the body.
