- Russian Ambassador Barbin announced Russia's retaliatory measures in the event of a conflict over Greenland
The Russian side is ready to take retaliatory measures in the event of a conflict over Greenland, while the actions of the Russian Federation will be adequate. This was announced on July 17 by Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin.
"This will require Russia to take military-technical measures adequate to the emerging threats," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Russian ambassador in Copenhagen clarified that in the context of the worsening international situation, which will negatively affect the state of affairs in the Arctic, the conflict actions around Greenland will also affect regional security.
According to Barbin, a substantive dialogue with Denmark on political security issues is currently impossible.
On June 28, Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council, expressed the opinion that the head of the Danish Arctic Command, General Søren Andersen, could claim the "stupidity of the year" after expressing concerns about the alleged Russian threat to Greenland.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced on June 17 that US President Donald Trump had transferred Greenland from the area of responsibility of the European Command to the control of the United States Northern Command, changing the plan of the combat command of the armed forces.
